Legibility is a Choice
We had to choose a slogan, quote, or title for this work and do a display that explores different territories. Our verbal text should ultimately remain legible, but the degree to which we, in the audience, need to work at reading it is up to you. Notice, however, that you are to make the text highly expressive so that the display is exciting to see as a visual entity.
For my second round for this project, I scraped the last quote and used “you are you” as a made-up quote that I thought was inspirational. In addition, I placed the central passage in large black letters with the word “You” repeating in the background in a light yellow color. This design gives the quote a more significant presence from the background and a slight distraction to the piece.
In my final designs, I focused on the quote, “Memories are the architecture of our identity.”- Unknown. I like the repetition of type in the second design, so I work it into a pattern similar to lines of code going through each other and in different directions. One design technique I made was identical to the coding vibe, with the colors red and blue, purple, and green. I like how this one turned out. My final submission made viewers focus hard on trying to ready the typography due to the colors and orientation of the text.
